Just in: This is how long Wirtz will be out after the injury

Liverpool have been handed some encouragement over Florian Wirtz after the midfielder suffered an ankle problem during the match.

Speaking after the game, Iraola suggested the injury did not appear serious. Wirtz was forced off after slightly twisting his ankle, but the early assessment was relatively positive.

Wirtz also played down concerns when discussing the problem afterwards. The midfielder indicated that further checks would be needed but said he did not expect to be sidelined for a significant period.

Liverpool will be hoping that assessment proves correct, particularly with several players already unavailable.

Dominik Szoboszlai, Jeremie Frimpong and Victor Munoz have recently joined Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros on the injury list, leaving the squad stretched in a number of areas.

There is optimism that Szoboszlai could return next week. The Carabao Cup meeting with Chelsea may come slightly too soon, making the Premier League clash with Arsenal a more realistic target.

Munoz is also believed to be dealing with a relatively minor problem. His return would provide another attacking option and give Iraola greater freedom to rotate his forward players, particularly if Wirtz is rested while recovering from the ankle issue.

The Liverpool boss made it clear after the match that getting injured players back into the squad is becoming increasingly important, with both Szoboszlai and Munoz seemingly close to returning.

For now, Liverpool will wait for further assessment of Wirtz, but the initial signs suggest the ankle problem is unlikely to keep him out for long.
